We live in an apartment. It´s above a member´s apartment. She´s the Sunday School teacher and one of those people that´s a mom to everyone so it´s really nice living by her.
The heat stinks and it´s not even as hot as it can get here yet. This past week it rained SOOOOOOO much. We´re talking feet not inches. Saturday night we were at a partmember family house that´s about a mile or so from our house. It had been raining all day but after we got to their house it really started coming down. We left the house and started home and then we came to one of the main streets in town that we NEEDED to cross to get home. The sidewalks there were about 10 or so inches above the street and the water was coming on to the sidewalk. The water was just about knee high and it was moving SO fast.
For drinking, we can have pretty much any soda except for, and I hate this part, coke. Little corner shops called dispensas are about every block or two and when we´re thirsty we go in and grab something.
Church starts at 8:30 and it´s a really nice ward. It´s not that small of a ward but everyone has a big calling. The bishop´s son in law is his first counselor, his nephew in law is his young men´s president. Almost everyone except the bishop´s family is a new member within the last five years. We ALWAYS have lunch after church with the bishop´s family. The pasta is usually thick hollow spaghetti, with a sauce that is I think broth and a little tomato sauce. There´s usually a little meat in it, pieces of beef or chicken. It´s really good just sparse.
My shoes have been great. They both have been holding up really well. The thing that has been killing my feet is the roads. With the exception of one or two main roads all the roads are stacked rocks covered in sand called empedrado. With as much rain as we have the dirt gets washed away so it´s just rocks. Not fun.
Wight hasn´t even been here a full change yet. There was need for an "emergency transfer" and he´s been here three weeks longer than I have, so...we use the map a lot. He leaves the first of the year so he´s not green, just new in Republicano.
I really can understand people but I´m still struggling to communicate. It´s coming though. The hardest part is learning Spanish and Guaraní. Some people use just Spanish, some mix them randomly and some crazy´s speak just Guaraní. It sounds like a caveman language.
